Article Series Plan

1. For my topic, I compared the following sites to WikiHow

  • authorSTREAM: When looking up my topic, I never found much about preparing for auditions. It was mostly promotion for shows.
  • MentorMob: Very selective in their topics, and unfortunately didn't have the topic I was researching.

2. Title: All the World's a Stage: How to Survive in Theatre

3. 10 Episodes

  1. How to Prepare for an Theatre Audition
  2. How to Study a Monologue Effectively
  3. How to Prepare a Musical Theatre Song
  4. How to Create a Resume
  5. How to Warm Up
  6. How to Overcome Stage Fright
  7. How to Understand Shakespeare
  8. How to Improvise
  9. How to Prepare for a Callback Audition
  10. How to Make the Part Your Own
4.

5. Some articles I found were used mostly for professional actors. My main focus is for beginners in theatre, along with some high school and college-aged students.

6. Statistics about theatre
  • Numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between drama involvement and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, student who participate in drama often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay generally more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts. Schools with arts-integrated programs, even in low-income areas, report high academic achievement.
  • In 2002, the Performing Arts Research Coalition (PARC) conducted surveys in 10 major metropolitan areas regarding the role of Performing Arts in their lives and communities . They discovered that at least 90 percent of respondents from each metropolitan area agreed or strongly agreed that the performing arts contribute to the education and development of children.More than 60 percent of respondents in each location who had children aged 13 and older strongly agreed that the performing arts contribute to the education and development of children.
  • 93 percent of Americans believe that the arts are essential to a complete education
  • 79 percent feel that the arts should be a priority in education reform

 5. The Social Cougars Podcast is a mix between Nickelodeons Ned’s Survival Guide and MTV’s infamous reality show The Real World. With the eclectic views of opinions and the twist and turns of conversations, the podcast is very relaxed and easy to listen to. The podcast if filled with light humor, but also useful tips for all different stages of a college student’s life. The show is definitely a program that can be listened to frequently for advice and tips weekly for students and sometimes teachers. The podcast is flexible thus having space for maybe special appearances, and maybe competitions and prizes to be distributed throughout the series to keep people to continue to listen. He show is diverse so no one would feel left out and would hold the views of different cultures and inviting ones that haven’t been mentioned.
 6. The percentage of Americans who have listened to a podcast in the past month according to ThePewResearch.com, has almost doubled since 2008, from 9% to 17% by January of 2015. The percentage listening in 2015 was up two points over 2014 levels (15%). With the increase of people tuning in to podcast, this is perfect time to push out information about colleges and advice for students because more people are beginning to listen overall. This podcast can be passed around from one campus to the next and would be a very good competitor because of how honest and relaxed the show is. It’s not repetitive and it’s not boring a drawn out. Each show would have different timing and different conversations. Some people may say well how much can you possibly talk about college? And that’s a problem in of its self, people don’t talk about college enough along with the situations and conflicts that surround colleges and universities.

Podcast Analysis Part 1

The Social Cougars
Nick Buonvicino
Stephanie Francis
Martina Hubbard
Album Cover for Joe Budden Podcast
Kevin Noriega
Bennett Solomon

Basics
1.     Title: The Joe Budden Podcast: I’ll Name This Podcast Later
2.     Rapper Joe Budden, who is from Jersey City, NJ, created this podcast. His most commercially successful single is the 2003 hit song, “Pump it Up.” Aside from his solo work, Budden is also apart of the hip-hop supergroup Slaughtermouse, alongside fellow hi-hop artists Royce da 5’9”, Joel Ortiz, and Crooked I. Outside of his music career, Budden co-stars in the VH1 reality show Love and Hip Hop.
This podcast also co-stars Budden’s dear friends Marisa Mendez and Rory.
3.     This podcast has been around since 2/18/15. The show just released its 55th episode on March 9th, 2016.

Market Placement
1.     The target audience for this podcast seems to be the 18-36 age range.
2.     According to the great reviews I have seen on podbay.fm and iTunes, it seems to be reaching its audience very well. It also has over 16 thousand followers on Soundloud.
3.     Two podcasts that target the same audience include:
a.     Juan Epstein - hosted by Hot 97 DJs, Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds. A lot interviews with big names like Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams as well as more underground names. Some incredible gems from this podcast include Snoop's story about Pac and Nas' confrontation in Central Park.
b.     The Combat Jack Show - hosted by industry OG Reggie "Combat Jack" Ossé. This show documents the hip-hop culture with in-depth interviews with historical figures and modern day superstars – ranging from Red Alert to Pusha T to Angela Yee.
c.      Each of these podcasts gain their audience by bringing in big name guests, as well as having great connections to get the podcast’s name out to the public. What also helps is the use of social media, as well as the audience connection with social media.
4.     With Joe Budden’s Podcast, he does similar content that the other podcasts do, but the chemistry that he has with his co-hosts Marisa and Rory makes for great listening.
5.     Some ways that this podcast can improve is by implementing more use of social media. I know that Joe Budden has a Facebook and Twitter, but it would maybe increase his followers by creating a Facebook page for the Podcast itself.

Multi-Media
1.     The multi-media sources used on this podcast are Soundcloud iTunes, and Youtube.
2.     The values of these sources are huge, especially for podcasts like this. For Itunes and Soundcloud, you can keep up to date with the episodes, or you can download them for your own personal listening.
3.      One way that Joe Budden can improve his use of multimedia is by using video for the YouTube page. This way people can actually witness their conversations instead of hearing them.
4.      This podcast points at all other linked social media really well.
5.     I know that Joe Budden has a Facebook and Twitter, but it would maybe increase his followers by creating a Facebook page for the Podcast itself.

Look
1.     In an audio sense, this podcast sounds very professional, and cover artwork for each episode is simple, yet effective to highlight the episode. The color of the page is very vibrant and lively, much like the personalities of this podcast.
2.     Even though there is no video, the CD cover artwork for each episode on Soundcloud does look professional, and is also, as stated earlier, simple.
3.     There are new episodes daily, and there is new artwork for each episode. Other than that, the layout for the page doesn’t really change.
4.     I think the overall sound and look of this podcast fits the image of the target audience.

Transparency
1.     By hearing a little bit of an episode, it really feels like I know the creator on a personal level because of his relaxed and fun demeanor when he speaks.
2.     This podcast sounds personally produced.

This would be something I would listen t
